Gambling Gator Makes Poker Series

Jason Lee, a University of Florida senior, was an online qualifier for the 2006 World Series of Poker. He successfully dodged being eliminated, wading past 5,000 other participants only to bust out Saturday, on his second day of playing in the main event. But the 21 year-old said he does not have any regrets. Although he didn't get a share of the pot money, he didn't suffer any losses either.

He won the $10,000 buy-in for the game including his airfare to Las Vegas and hotel accommodation for a week and a half. He won an online poker game against 81 opponents.

Lee has been playing poker for a year and a half, and he said that his experience of being in the most prestigious poker event has been surreal but fun.

"I had a blast," the financial management major said. "I plan on going back next year."

At present, he said that he is treating poker "as a job while I'm going to school". Lee won his personal high of $22,000 in a single game during an online poker tournament. However, he says that he is also a regular player of live games, which has been useful while playing in Vegas.

Lee said that he easily spotted players who were more used to playing online poker. According to him, these players are those who had difficulty hiding their emotions and involuntary motions that gave their hands away.

"I'm going to get my degree before I start playing (professionally)" Lee said.
