On April 14th, 2008, the second Day 1 event of the EPT Grand Final held in Monte Carlo are now over and the field has now been scaled down and combined over the remaining participants of the first Day 1 event for the second day and among them is poker professional Josh Arieh.
The poker event drew around 842 players, which is more than 136 players compared with last year. This would put the cash pool around $13.3 million and the first place player will receive $3.2 million, more than three hundred thousand dollars over what last year's champion, Gavin Griffin took home. About 426 players made it to the next game and that event has already started in the Salles des Etoiles poker tournament room at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel.
Some of the players who have fallen early include Daniel Negreanu, Patrik Antonius, Juha Helppi, Vicky Coren and others. Some of the players that are doing well are Johnny Lodden, Luca Pagano and Joe Hachem. Some of the well-known players that are still in contention in the event include Marcel Luske, Mel Judah, Freddy Deeb, Barry Greenstein, Sorel Mizzi and Josh Arieh. Play will proceed through five levels before the poker players gather chips and enjoy the night life in Monte Carlo.
