David Williams Wins the 2010 World Poker Tour Championship

Poker pro David Williams outwitted a talented group of poker professionals to take home the 2010 world poker tour (WPT) Championship title at the Bellagio on April 25th, 2010. It was Williams' 1st WPT title at his 4th final table appearance on the poker tour. He won a total of $1,530,537 and improved his overall poker career earnings to $7,884,005.

The total chip count at the start of the 2010 WPT final table: Seat 1: John O'Shea-1,200,000, Seat 2: Billy Baxter-2,440,000, Seat 3: Eric Baldwin-4,490,000, Seat 4: David Williams-4,700,000, Seat 5: David Benyamine-4,700,000, Seat 6: Shawn Buchanan-1,965,000.

John O'Shea planned to double up immediately and win the poker event or hit the rail trying when the day started. O'Shea's result was the latter one. He was sent home in 6th place after Billy Baxter called him with his A-ten and all that O'Shea could do was a six-three. Baxter busted a short time later in 5th place when his aces failed to improve against the Broadway straight of Williams.

The battle for 4th place raged on for quite some time before David Benyamine placed a pre-flop with Q/J. Shawn Buchanan called with his A/5 and a five on the turn sent Benyamine home in 4th place. After that, Buchanan found his own chip stack in trouble. He moved all in pre-flop with pocket queens and Williams called with pocket 9's. A third nine fell on the flop and Buchanan was out in 3rd place.

Williams took a three-one chip advantage into the heads-up showdown against Eric Baldwin. The 2009 Card Player POY (Player of the Year) was never able to get something going against Williams and the first major card hand they played against each other was final hand of the event.

Baldwin decided to move all-in preflop with A/5 and Williams made the call with his pocket deuces. The A/7/6/2/4 board took everyone in the table on a rocky ride before solving the problem of who would be the 2010 World Poker Tour (WPT) world champion.

Baldwin was sent home in 2nd place and Williams won the title. The final table results are: 1st place: David Williams-$1,530,537, 2nd place: Eric Baldwin-$1,034,715, 3rd place: Shawn Buchanan-$587,906, 4th place: David Benyamine-$329,228, 5th place: Billy Baxter-$246,921 and 6th place: John O'Shea-$199,888.
