Poker pro David Benyamine outwitted a talented final table and then defeated Luke "FullFlush" Schwartz in the heads-up shown to take home the victory at the PartyPoker.com Premier League IV on February 19th, 2010. Benyamine said that he feels very happy in winning a title since he is not used to it.
The tournament, which was hosted at the M Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, was the first time the Premier League had been hosted in the United States. Poker pros Phil Laak, Roland de Wolfe, Daniel Negreanu and Italian online poker qualifier Giovanni Safina all reached the final table with a shot at the $400,000 1st place cash prize.
Surprisingly, it was Phil Laak who was the first one to go home, despite dominating the group stagers, winning three of the six preliminary heats. Phil Laak would soon be joined by Roland De Wolfe and Daniel Negreanu who finished in 5th and 4th place respectively. Online poker qualifier Safina was finally sent to the rail when Schwartz sucked out after getting it in behind.
This set up an exciting heads-up showdown between Schwartz and Benyamine. Although "FullFlush" had a 2-1 chip lead heading into the match, it was eventually Benyamine who outwitted the volatile Schwartz. Luke Schwartz said that he is really disappointed about his performance but that is how it goes. Schwartz won a total of $200,000.
Benyamine, who is a cash poker player, said that Schwartz was a big challenge for him. Benyamine said that Schwartz is an impulsive poker player but he just stuck to his own game in the match and it was enough to win the title.
Benyamine joins Andy Black, J.C. Tran and Juha Helppi as the only poker player to win a Premier League title.
