Carlton Wins Heartland Poker Tour Stop in Iowa

On November 5th, 2007, at the most recent Heartland Poker Tour event, Donny Carlton, 23 years-old, won $85,000 for his first place finished in the Iowa State Poker Championships at the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel.

More than $307,000 was allotted for the cash pool from the 214 participants. Carlton is a poker pro who recently graduated from the University of Iowa. He was supported by a group of fellow poker pros that had been traveling together for the last three stops of the Heartland Poker Tour.

Although two of his fellow poker players made it to the final table of the HPT, Carlton is the first one to win a title. The final results of the table are 1st, Donny Carlton of Woodstock, Illinois-$85,198, 2nd John Oetker of Marshalltown, IA-$42,599, 3rd Cal Dykes of Las Vegas, NV-$27,385.

4th, Mark Sandness of Wayzata, MN-$21,300, 5th Steve Sloan of Sublette, Illinois-$18,257 and 6th, Tom Wessling of Denison, IA-$15,214. There are two more stops left in the HPT circuit. The next HPT event is at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona on November 10th, 2007.

The HPT Championship Open is the grand finale of the event. It will be held on December 1st, 2007-December 10th, 2007 at the Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana. All of the champions of the HPT event were awarded a $3,000 package to participate in this event. The HPT championship open is expected to feature $1 million cash pool.
