Brenes Joins Team PokerStars

The world's largest tournament web site, PokerStars.com, announced July 20 that Humberto Brenes has joined its team of all-stars poker professionals.

Brenes is set to appear publicly for the first time as a member of team PokerStars at the 2006 World Series of Poker. Brenes, aside from the WSOP will also be seen quite a lot around the circuit as he will be playing representing PokerStars the remainder of the year at various poker tournaments.

Brenes is dubbed the "Godfather of Costa Rican Players", and has earned two World Series of Poker gold bracelets and has placed in the money in over 40 major tournaments.

"Humberto is the epitome of the competitive spirit and class that is Team PokerStars," stated Nolan Dalla, Director of Communications for PokerStars.com. "He is a competitor that incites both a tremendous fear and respect from all players."

Brenes has had a fascination for the game of poker since he was a boy of seven, learning it from his father. His card playing days were kicked off by playing Baccarat, but upon seeing his aptitude with the cards and odds, decided to concentrate on poker.

Brenes is easily identifiable in any poker table given his signature colorful attires. Aside from that, his is one of the charismatic players that just naturally draws people in. Humberto broke out in the scene for the first time in 2002, finishing first at Jack Binion World Poker Open championship in Tunica, MS taking home more than $500,000.

In 2003, Humberto placed second at the L.A. Invitational. In 2004, he was a second placer at the Bellagio's Five Diamond World Poker Classic followed by a third-place finish at the Foxwood's Poker Classic with winnings totaling more than $1.5 million.
