David Ross White of Abbotsford is British Columbia's brand new poker champion, after 3 grueling days of tournament poker play.
For his well deserved victory, White took home the $600,000 grand prize and a champion's watch, not to mention year-long (or maybe life-long) bragging rights.
White bumped out 784 other poker hopefuls who came from different places to bag the top spot after 32 hours of intense poker play in the $2 million No-Limit Texas Hold-em Event at the River Rock Casino held on Sunday, November 26th.
"I feel fantastic," said the ecstatic White. "I think we'll use this money to pay off some debt and go on a holiday. We're going to have a great time!"
The poker tournament featured players from Alberta, Ontario, Nova Scotia and the Yukon, and some even from far-off US states like Texas, Nevada, California and Washington.
"The response we received from players and spectators at this year's tournament is truly remarkable," said Brian Lynch, BCLC Vice President of Casino Gaming.
Some noted poker personalities were also at the tournament, including Gavin Smith who finished in 27th place, Brad "Yukon" Booth and Johnny Chan.
Placing second is Yukon resident Derrick Law, bagging $290,000.
