On March 26, 2007, it was announced that the seats at the Irish Poker Open are almost full. That number is expected to add up as the opening date for the poker tournament approaches. About 2 million euros will be awarded to the winning players of the tournament.
The Irish Poker Open is considered the 2nd longest running poker tournament in the history of the game of poker. About 550,000 euros will be awarded to the champion of the event, ensuring that the best poker players will be compensated adequately for making the trip to the Burlington Hotel in Dublin, Ireland, which is the venue of the tournament. The Irish Poker Tournament will be held on Easter Weekend. Some of the participants are the O'Reilly's, the O'Leary's, the O'Connors and the Bhupinders.
Some of the poker players also expected to attend the event are the famed Hendon Mob members, like Joe Beevers, Barny Boatman, Dave Colclough, Dave "The Devilfish" Ulliott, US based player and television personality, Chad Brown and Irish Poker Open 2006 defending champion, Vincent Melinn.
The poker tournament will be broadcast by national broadcaster, RTE. The main highlights of the event will air in a 90 minute program each day on the RTE Two from Saturday to Monday at 11:25 p.m. (GMT). Liz Bonnin, a former girl-band superstar and Top of the Pops host will be the main hosts of the tournament. Jesse May, the "legendary voice of Poker" will provide the commentary for the event.
