Paddy Power Poker announced that they will increase the cash prize for the 2008 Irish Open poker tournament by 1 million euros.
The online qualifiers for the tournament started on August 13th, 2007. The 2008 Irish Open will feature an increase buy-in of 4,200 euros+ 300 euros, an increase of 1,000 participants in the tournament and a cash pool of 3 million euros.
About 708 players participated in the Dubai tournament in 2007 which featured 2.3 million euros. Some of the participants at the tournament were world series of poker (WSOP) champions Dan Harrington and Carlos Mortensen.
Last year's tournament was won by Marty Smyth from Northern Island. In addition to the Terry Rogers trophy, he won 650,000 euros after a final showdown with Roland De Wolfe.
Top poker pros were among the participants in the 2007 tournament and it is expected to be the same way with the 2008 event, publicized as one of the biggest poker events in Europe.
