The 2007 WPT North American Poker Championship

It was announced on August 15th, 2007 that any Texas Hold'em players who want to test their skills can go to the poker room of the Fallsview Casino Resort to join the satellite tournaments to win a slot at the World Poker Tour's 2007 North American Poker Championship.

The tournament will be held from October 26th, 2007 through November 2nd, 2007. Greg Medulun, the Director of Communications for Fallsview Casino Resort said that with the good feedback of the players from last year's tournament, they are hopeful that they could surpass the 497 participants this year.

Participants can buy directly to the main event of the Northern American Poker Championships for $10,300 CDN or they can join the satellite poker tournaments for as low as $90 CDN. Medulun said that one of the reasons why the World Poker Tour is very exciting is that the amateur players who have polished their skill in virtual anonymity can have the chance to play against poker pros for a seat at the tournament.

Last year, Soren Turkewitsch from Oshawa, Canada entered the $90 CDN and later won the 2006 North American Poker championship bracelet. Aside from that, he won more than $1 million CDN in cash prizes.

Turkewitsch was able to defeat some of the top names in the poker circuit like Daniel Negreanu, Gavin Smith and Isabelle Mercier, Humberto Brenes, Carlos Mortenson, John Juanda and Dan Harrington.

The 2006 North American Poker Championships was the first ever World Poker Tour event held in Canada. Anyone interested for more information can call Fallsview Casino's WPT Hotline at 1-866-5-POKER-5. They can also log-in at
