On October 30th, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. announced the launch date of the 38th annual World Series of Poker as presented by Milwaukee's Best Light. The 2007 WSOP is slated to begin on June 1, 2007 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. The final table of the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold-em World Championship is set to take place on July 17th. The complete event schedule for the WSOP will be announced before the end of 2006.
"The 2006 World Series of Poker was the best yet, but 2007 will be even better," said World Series of Poker Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. "As a first step, we've moved the start date up and now we're developing an expanded and well-rounded schedule of events for 2007 that will appeal to both professionals and amateurs."
2006's WSOP reached astronomical heights with a prize pool of over $171 million and an excess of 48,000 player registrations, breaking every participation and prize money record held by a live event for the game of poker. The top prize for the main event reached $12 million.
The World Series of Poker will still be broadcast exclusively on ESPN. For more information on the World Series of Poker, log on to www.worldseriesofpoker.com.
